Background

Seventeen percent of Singapore organizations rank as Frontier Firms in AI maturity, ahead of the 10% global share, according to IDC research commissioned by Microsoft.

IDC surveyed 200 respondents and scored AI maturity on spending discipline, breadth of use, skills and outcomes. Nearly three in four Singapore organizations, or 73%, reached the middle or highest maturity levels, compared with 70% globally. Microsoft shared the findings at an event at Singapore EXPO that drew more than 2,500 business and technology leaders.

Businesses report strong gains. About 68% of businesses report significant or transformative results that AI has opened up for them, while 41% say it lifts revenue or brings in new income streams.

Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft Commercial Business, said Singapore can turn its AI leadership into lasting economic and societal impact. Chia Wee Luen, Managing Director of Microsoft Singapore, said the country ranks second worldwide in AI diffusion and that scaling AI with trust will define the next phase.

IDC lists four priorities for Frontier Firms: build for intelligence, operationalize trust and observability, advance agentic workflows, and measure and optimize value.

Real cases from CPF Board, Genspark and Seatrium back up these findings on the ground. Genspark reached US$250 million in annual recurring revenue within 12 months of launch. Seatrium is building a digital twin foundation with Microsoft to speed project delivery.

Microsoft backs Singapore with a US$5.5 billion investment, set for 2025 to 2029, in cloud and AI infrastructure.
