Background-

Delta-T Devices has hit £5m in annual sales as the firm celebrates 55 years in business, backed by a run of new contract wins.

The scientific instrument maker has added £1.5m to its yearly sales over the past few years, driven by demand for its plant science, soil science, commercial horticulture and solar PV monitoring systems.

Delta-T has strengthened its team by hiring experienced department heads and building skills across its original Burwell base, where its modern headquarters sits beside the late 16th-century Tudor Barn.

Chair Heidi Hathaway said the company still follows its founding aim of making instruments for socially worthwhile purposes at a reasonable cost. She said its business now splits evenly between environmental research, commercial horticulture and solar PV, with projects running in more than 20 countries across five continents. She added that its WET Sensor technology supported lettuce-growing experiments in outer space.

The company is putting investment into new products. The WET90, a compact multi-parameter sensor for commercial growing media, and a Modbus version of the SPN1 Sunshine Pyranometer for solar PV monitoring will launch shortly. Celora, a compact wireless telemetry unit, will follow and link Delta-T and third-party SDI-12 sensors to the cloud over 4G.

Head of Sales and Marketing Mark Daniels said the firm plans to apply more than five decades of research-grade expertise to larger commercial markets. He noted
