In a media industry shaped by changing consumer behaviour, evolving technology, tighter business expectations and the growing importance of measurable outcomes, marketing decisions can no longer be separated from the larger business objective. Reaching the right audience is only one part of the equation. The greater challenge lies in understanding people, interpreting data, choosing the right environment and turning those insights into action.
For Rohan Prakash, Associate Vice President – Client Services, India at WPP Media, this understanding has been at the centre of a career spanning more than nine years across leading agencies and marquee brands. His journey reflects a continued interest in how brands connect with people and how media can move beyond presence to create measurable business value.
With a B.Com from Lucknow Christian Degree College and a PGDM in International Business & Marketing from EMPI Business School, where he was a 1st rank holder of GFP award, Rohan further strengthened his expertise through an Executive Program in Digital Marketing from IIM Indore in 2024. Since beginning his career in 2016, he has worked across media planning, buying, strategy, brand positioning, digital and performance marketing, analytics, client management, budgeting, and team leadership.
From Jeena & Company and Arena Media to GroupM/Wavemaker, Accenture, Lodestar UM, MediaSense, and Dentsu, every transition brought a new dimension to his understanding of the profession. In September 2026, he joined WPP Media as Associate Vice President – Client Services, India, carrying forward a philosophy built around curiosity, continuous learning, people, ideas, data, and meaningful business outcomes.
Let’s explore how Rohan’s journey has shaped his approach to media, leadership and measurable business impact!
A Career Built on Curiosity and Continuous Learning
Rohan’s professional journey began with an interest in understanding how brands connect with people. What fascinated him was that a successful campaign was not simply about a creative idea. It was about reaching the right audience, in the right environment, at the right time, with a clear business objective.
Entering the industry in 2016, he gradually built his expertise across media planning, buying, strategy, brand positioning, digital and performance marketing. His early years gave him a strong grounding in the fundamentals of media, while subsequent roles exposed him to increasingly complex business and marketing challenges.
At GroupM/Wavemaker, his work on Hero MotoCorp gave him strong exposure to television, print, radio, and integrated media planning. He later worked with Accenture, Lodestar UM on Coca-Cola, MediaSense, and Dentsu, taking on senior responsibilities across media strategy, client management, budgeting, performance marketing, and team leadership.
At Dentsu, he worked with clients including McCain Foods and Honda Cars India, managing significant annual media investments and leading integrated brand and media strategies. He also led and mentored a team of media professionals while working closely with senior client stakeholders.
For him, every career move has been an opportunity to learn something new, take on greater responsibility, and become a better professional. The journey has had its challenges, but those challenges have strengthened his resilience, adaptability, and ability to stay focused on outcomes.
He sees his career not as a straight line, but as a continuous process of learning, evolving, and creating impact.
From Media Presence to Business Value
The central idea that has remained constant throughout Rohan’s career is straightforward: “Media should create business value, not just media presence.”
Whether it is a pan-India product launch, a brand-building campaign, or an efficiency-led media plan, he believes decisions should be supported by consumer understanding, data, and a clear view of the desired business outcome. His experience across different organisations has allowed him to see the industry from multiple perspectives, from execution and media sourcing to strategic planning, analytics, client leadership, and team management.
This approach has shaped his work with marquee brands including Hero MotoCorp, Coca-Cola, McCain Foods, and Honda Cars India. Across these assignments, he has managed substantial media investments while focusing on measurable efficiencies and business outcomes.
At the core of his approach is the belief that marketing begins with understanding people. From there, media has the role of turning that understanding into measurable action.
Today, as Associate Vice President – Client Services at WPP Media, his focus is on bringing together strategy, people, data, and execution to solve business problems. The profession has changed considerably since he entered the industry, but the fundamental principle remains unchanged.
“Good marketing starts with understanding people, and great media turns that understanding into measurable action,” he notes.
Leading with Structure, Trust, and Perspective
A leadership role in media and marketing can be demanding. Client priorities can change quickly, campaigns can operate across multiple markets, and decisions often have to be made under tight timelines. Rohan has learned that balance does not necessarily mean separating professional and personal life perfectly every day. Instead, it means learning how to prioritise, remain present, and manage energy responsibly.
One of the biggest lessons for him has been the importance of preparation. When the business objective, consumer, data, and executional details are clear, professional challenges become much easier to manage. His approach to complex situations is therefore structured: understand the problem, identify the priorities, involve the right people, and then act.
This thinking also shapes how he leads teams. He believes leadership is not about doing everything yourself. His experience at Dentsu, where he led and mentored media professionals, reinforced the importance of delegation, trust, and developing people.
A strong team creates resilience and allows leaders to focus on higher-value decisions rather than becoming the bottleneck for every task. For him, building people is therefore closely connected to building sustainable performance.
At the same time, perspective outside work matters. He values time with family and close relationships because they provide a perspective beyond professional responsibilities. In an industry where every deadline can sometimes feel urgent, stepping away, even briefly, helps him return with a clearer mind and better judgement.
He also recognises that not every challenge will have an immediate answer. Careers are built over years, not individual days. The demanding phases and moments of uncertainty throughout his journey have helped him become more adaptable and patient.
An Appetite for Problems, Growth, and Results
Rohan’s appetite for business comes from solving problems and seeing a strategy translate into measurable outcomes. He enjoys situations where there is a clear business challenge but no single obvious answer.
His experience managing ₹20–35 crore in annual media investments has taught him that business appetite is not simply about pursuing scale. It is about understanding where investment can create the strongest impact and being accountable for the choices made.
He has consistently been drawn towards opportunities that combine strategic thinking with commercial discipline. At Dentsu, his work included integrated brand and media strategy, media mix modelling, audience segmentation, vendor negotiations, and cost optimisation. These experiences helped deliver 15–20% media cost efficiencies and improve campaign ROI by up to approximately 20%.
The growth side of business also interests him. Understanding consumers, identifying opportunities, developing go-to-market strategies, and finding new ways to make brands more relevant have been important parts of his work. His experience across FMCG and automotive clients has exposed him to different consumer behaviours and business challenges.
As he moves forward in his leadership journey, Rohan wants to expand this appetite beyond campaign delivery towards broader business impact. He sees media as a business function that can influence growth, brand equity, efficiency, and customer experience when it is connected properly to the larger organisation.
His approach is growth-oriented but grounded in data. He is comfortable with ambition, but believes ambition becomes meaningful when it is supported by strong execution, responsible investment, and measurable results.
Where Brands, Consumers, Media, and Business Meet
At the heart of Rohan’s professional passion is the intersection of brands, consumers, media, and business.
He enjoys understanding why people make choices and how brands can build meaningful connections with them. Whether it is planning a product launch, identifying the right audience, optimising media investment, or developing a new approach to campaign measurement, he enjoys the combination of analytical thinking and creativity.
Learning is equally important to him. Consumer behaviour evolves, digital platforms develop, technology changes the way advertising is bought and measured, and brands continue to look for more effective ways to engage audiences. Staying curious is therefore essential.
His passion extends to people as well. Leading and mentoring teams has shown him that professional success becomes more meaningful when others grow alongside you. He enjoys sharing knowledge, challenging assumptions, and creating an environment where people can take ownership.
Ultimately, his passion is not limited to advertising or media as an industry. It is about creating impact, whether that means solving a difficult problem, improving an outcome, helping a team perform better, or finding a smarter way of doing something.
That mindset has carried him from his first roles in media planning to leadership positions and, most recently, his role as Associate Vice President at WPP Media. He believes, “The strongest careers are built when learning, purpose and performance continue to reinforce each other.”
Learning from an Industry That Changed
The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented period of disruption for the media and marketing industry. Consumer behaviour changed rapidly, media consumption patterns shifted, and brands had to reassess priorities in an environment where business certainty was limited.
For Rohan, the period reinforced an important lesson: adaptability is not optional in the industry.
Media planning cannot operate on historical assumptions alone. When the environment changes, understanding new consumer behaviour, reassessing priorities, and making data-led decisions become critical. The pandemic also accelerated the importance of digital channels, measurement, and flexibility in marketing.
The experience reinforced his need to remain calm, stay close to the data, and keep learning. Rather than treating uncertainty as a reason to stop, it became important to understand what had changed and what those changes meant for consumers and brands.
That approach continues to influence his work today: avoid assumptions, listen carefully, use available evidence, and remain flexible enough to change the plan when circumstances change.
The pandemic was a difficult period for the industry, but it also demonstrated how quickly marketing can evolve. For him, it reinforced the importance of professionals being able to learn, adapt, and continue creating value even when the operating environment is changing.
Strengths Shaped by Experience
One of Rohan’s strongest qualities is his ability to combine strategic thinking with execution. He enjoys looking at the larger business objective while also understanding the details required to make a plan work.
Data-driven decision-making is another important strength. Across his career, he has worked with media analytics, audience measurement, media mix modelling, performance marketing, and cost benchmarking. These experiences have helped him make decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions.
Stakeholder management and team leadership have also shaped his professional approach. Working with senior clients, internal teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders has taught him the importance of listening, clarity, and ownership. At Dentsu, mentoring a team of 5–6 media planners across different levels was particularly valuable in developing his leadership style.
Adaptability has been equally important. Moving across different organisations, clients, and responsibilities, from media planning and buying to strategy, sourcing, analytics, and client leadership, required learning quickly and adapting to new environments.
At the same time, he is open about areas where he has had to improve. One learning has been not to spend too much time trying to make every detail perfect. In a fast-moving business environment, perfection can sometimes delay progress. He has learned to distinguish between details that materially affect the outcome and those that simply consume time.
Another important learning has been that asking for support is a strength, not a weakness. Earlier in his career, he sometimes felt he needed to solve everything independently. Experience taught him that involving the right people early can lead to better decisions and stronger outcomes.
His advice is simple: “Know your strengths, be honest about your gaps, and treat weaknesses as areas for development rather than labels.” Continuous improvement is a career-long process.
Achievements That Reflect Collective Effort
Rohan’s professional achievements have largely been defined by the scale and impact of the work he has been fortunate to lead.
Across his career, he has worked on marquee brands including Hero MotoCorp, Coca-Cola, McCain Foods, and Honda Cars India, leading or contributing to integrated media and brand strategies across pan-India markets. He has managed annual media investments in the ₹20–35 crore range and contributed to approximately 2X market share growth for key brands through integrated ATL-led campaigns and data-driven audience segmentation.
His work has also delivered 15–20% media cost efficiencies through strategic sourcing, vendor negotiation, benchmarking, and optimisation. Through analytics-led optimisation, performance marketing, and media mix modelling, he has improved campaign ROI by up to approximately 20%.
At GroupM/Wavemaker, he played a key role in new product launches including Hero MotoCorp’s Destini 125, XPulse 200, and Xtreme 200R. Earlier in his career, he also contributed to a 12% uplift in brand consideration for the MotoCorp portfolio.
Leadership has been another important achievement. At Dentsu, he led and mentored a team of 5–6 media planners across different levels while partnering with senior client leadership on growth planning and stakeholder management.
His formal recognition includes the Dentsu Rise – Team of the Quarter 2026, awarded for outstanding client delivery and team leadership. Academically, he was a 1st Rank Holder and GFP Award Winner at EMPI Business School.
Yet he views these achievements not simply as milestones, but as evidence of the importance of consistency, teamwork, learning, and accountability. Every recognition has reinforced his belief that sustainable success is built collectively and that the strongest professional achievements are those that create value for clients, organisations, and people.
Building Leaders Through Trust
For Rohan, leadership begins before the title arrives. His first advice to aspiring leaders is to focus on becoming dependable before trying to become visible.
Leadership is built through consistent delivery, ownership, and the ability to make good decisions when situations are not straightforward. From there, aspiring leaders need to understand the business behind their function.
Whatever the role, understanding how work affects revenue, customers, efficiency, brand equity, or organisational growth provides a larger perspective. Functional expertise remains important, but leaders also need to understand the broader business context.
Continuous learning forms another part of his philosophy. His own transition from traditional media planning to digital, performance marketing, analytics, and integrated client leadership reflects the value of staying curious as industries change.
He also places strong importance on working with people. Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about bringing together different perspectives, communicating clearly, creating accountability, and helping people perform at their best. Mentoring teams has been one of the most rewarding parts of his career.
At the same time, he encourages future leaders to become comfortable with data without losing the human perspective. Data can tell you what is happening, but context and consumer understanding often help explain why it is happening.
Difficult phases, too, have their place in a career. Setbacks, changes, uncertainty, and periods when progress feels slow can become valuable learning opportunities.
His leadership philosophy remains clear: “Take ownership, stay curious, build people, understand the business, and remain grounded.” Titles can create authority, but trust is what creates leadership.
The Next Chapter at WPP Media
The world of media and marketing continues to change, but Rohan believes one principle remains constant: understanding people is at the heart of every successful brand.
Technology can improve targeting, measurement, and execution, but strong marketing still requires empathy, curiosity, and a clear understanding of human behaviour. This balance between technology and people remains central to how he sees the profession.
He also believes careers should be viewed as journeys rather than destinations. Every role, organisation, success, and challenge adds something to the professional a person eventually becomes. His own journey across media planning, strategy, analytics, client leadership, and team management has reinforced that belief.
Now, as he begins his next chapter at WPP Media, the focus remains on learning, contributing, and creating meaningful business impact. His mantra is simple: keep learning, stay adaptable, and focus on creating real value.
Success, in his view, is rarely the result of one big moment. It is usually the outcome of consistent effort, good people, informed decisions, and the willingness to improve every day. Growth becomes sustainable when professional ambition is balanced with humility, curiosity, and purpose.
For Rohan Prakash, the journey forward is therefore not about reaching a final destination. It is about continuing to learn, bringing people and ideas together, making informed decisions, and turning an understanding of consumers into action that creates value.
