In a pivotal move with far-reaching implications for the region’s digital transformation trajectories, GITEX — the world’s largest technology and AI events network — officially launched in Southeast Europe on Monday.
Organized by the Dubai World Trade Centre and Kawn International , and in strategic partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia , GITEX AI Serbia will take place at the Belgrade Exhibition Centre on May 26-27, 2027. As the official technology event of Expo 2027 Belgrade , GITEX AI Serbia aims to promote Southeast Europe as a powerful hub connecting emerging regional digital economies with the frontiers of global innovation, technology, and investment.

Supporting ICT exports and the AI development agenda in Serbia
Serbia has emerged as a leader in digital transformation in Southeast Europe, demonstrating its prominence through a thriving ICT sector , advanced e-government services, biotechnology ecosystems, and a national artificial intelligence strategy. The ICT sector contributes 10% to the GDP and achieved record exports of US$ 4.31 billion in 2024 — a tenfold increase in 12 years—and currently employs around 110,000 specialists, with this number expected to reach 140,000 by 2027 , the year in which the Ministry of Information and Communications targets exports of US$ 11.7 billion (€10 billion) .
In addition, the Serbian government announced last year an $ 82.1 million (€70 million) investment plan for AI development through 2027 —aligning with its vision to foster leadership in AI , agricultural technology , sustainability , and the circular economy . This followed the establishment of the first AI research institute in Southeast Europe , further solidifying Serbia’s position as a regional benchmark for innovation, research, and development—a position that GITEX AI Serbia will further enhance and elevate, both for the country and the region as a whole.
